RV mail forwarding
Thousands of American RVers are on the road for
extended periods of time. In fact, many of us have sold our homes, and have no permanent
address. How do we get mail? We have someone receive our mail, and forward it to us. A few
may have a friend or relative forward our mail to us, but most pay a fee to a mail
forwarding service. Most RV clubs offer such services. Some full-time RVers have even
figured out that the address of the mail forwarding service can become their legal state
of residence - and they select the service they use accordingly. That is, they choose a
state that has no state income tax; or a state with a low annual RV registration fee. Many
even register to vote in that state, and vote by absentee ballot!
If we're going to be staying at a private campground for a month or more, we might have
our mail delivered to the campground office. Another popular way to get mail on the road
is to anticipate where you will be on a particular date; then have your mail sent to that
town's post office. Your mail forwarder addresses the package to, (for example):
Joe Smith
c/o General Delivery
Anytown, USA 99999
When you arrive in the town, go to the post office counter and show the clerk your ID, and
ask if you have any general delivery mail waiting. But how do you find the ZIP codes for
the post offices where you will be?
Post office locator. Go to this site; leave the street address blank, then type in the
city and state. You will get the ZIP code, plus the physical location of the post office,
so you can find the post office when you arrive. Tip: use a small town. If you
use a large town, "general delivery" mail may go to a branch other than the one
you selected.

Mail forwarding links:
Mail forwarding can be temporary or permanent. While using a mail forwarding address
does not automatically change your state of domicile, many full-time RVers will opt to
become legal residents of this state. For this reason, I am showing the state after
each mail forwarder. While Texas and Florida are not the only states with no state
personal income tax, they are popular choices of most mail forwarders.
